Attrition And Being Transgender - The Survival and Thrive Rules
I am living my life fully as my real identity. This conflict is resolving and I am choosing to be the hero of my story. With Name Changes, Legal Changes, work changes, all of it.
In this time I have learned a few things. Which I will call survival and thrive rules. These rules are for transgender people specifically, but maybe they also apply to everyone? You be the judge, there is something for everyone here.
Rule #1: Life doesn't give a F...
What this means is the universe has been here for billions of years. Asteroids have hit the planet multiple times leading to cataclysmic extinction events (All life DEAD!). We have had Wars where NAZI FASCIST FUCXX decided they were better than everyone else, killing millions, 30-50 million people is a rough estimate.
Today....day to day we go about our lives, we live maybe 80 years (thats 80 times around the sun), and if we are luckly maybe 20 more. Still nothing in the scheme of things. The Sun rises, sets, rises, sets. life is born, grows, dies. repeat. seasons cycle; fall, winter, spring, summer, fall, winter, spring, summer, repeat.
A machine if you will and it DOES NOT CARE.
People strive to be "seen" to be heard, to be relevent and then they die and everyone moves on. Maybe.. you do something great, but even then.. everyone moves on.
The take away here is; What do you want your life to be like? our lifespans are short, why not live it the way you choose, by your rules? Nobody, no political body, no city, state, federal government should have a say on how you live your life. No Religion (and there are many of them) should dictate what you can or can't do. Period. But there is a catch to all this. You must live your life decently, do no harm to others, but also don't tolerate @#%#% from others trying to harm you (Platinum Rule). Thats it.
There is a book "Hail Mary" and I love this story. Its my favorite "what if" scenario. Has it all, imminent peril to all life, danger, hope, alien contact, all of it. What I love about this story is the main character finds themselves in a very difficult situation and they make it work... They live their life fully and quite frankly at the risk of spoilers here... They choose to do something ultimately that is awesome.
I won't say more, read the book, its great. The movie is also great, but like always the book is better :).
To sum it up. Life is a Journey. IMO you get one shot at it. What do you want it to be like? What do you want your story to be? You are the hero of your story, do good in the world. Be a light for others. Shine on.
Thats it for now....
Ok... in the coming weeks I will continue to post Rules to live by as a transgender person. I hope they make you think, and consider things.
